  • Day 1: Welcome to Peru
  • You will be welcomed to Peru by a staff member who will be waiting in arrivals at the airport to meet you and escort you to your hotel. You will have the rest of the day free to explore the surrounding areas at your leisure.

  • Day 2: Lima Traditional City Tour
  • Today, you will get to experience the colonial past of Peru’s capital, Lima. First, we will travel to the Plaza Mayor, which is surrounded by fascinating buildings and monuments such as the Archbishop’s Palace. We will then explore the catacombs and admire the beautiful artwork in the San Franciscan Monastery. Finally, we will visit the modern districts of Lima, San Isidro and Miraflores. We will finish our city tour with a delicious lunch at one of Lima´s finest restaurants.

  • Day 3: flight to Cusco / Sacred Valley tour
  • After breakfast in the hotel, our staff will pick you up and escort you to Lima International Airport where you will take a flight to Cusco, which only takes one hour and ten minutes. Upon your arrival to Cusco, you will be greeted and welcomed by a LetsGo Peru representative. Then, you will meet your guide and driver who will accompany you on the marvelous journey that awaits you.
  • We will start our exploration of the Sacred Valley of the Incas in the exceptional project of Awanakancha. Here, we will witness people weave traditional textiles such as multi-colored belts and exquisitely embroidered blankets and see the complete procedure of this art. Then, we will continue our journey through to Pisaq, which boasts an impressive Inca archaeological site with magnificent terraced fields along the mountains. We will then visit Pisaq’s traditional market, famous for its beautiful handicrafts and enjoy a delicious lunch in the heart of the Sacred Valley. Finally, we will continue through the valley until we arrive at your hotel, which is in an area surrounded by beautiful scenery.

  • Day 4: Ollantaytambo / Maras / Moray tour
  • To begin, you will have a delicious breakfast at the hotel. Then, our tour guide and private transportation will pick you up to start our private tour of Ollantaytambo. The town is located at the foot of spectacular Inca ruins, which protected the strategic entrance to the lower Urubamba Valley.
  • Peruvian cuisine is now considered as one of the best in the world and we will sample its innovation, variation and flavors at an exquisite lunch. Then, we will go to Moray, an Incan agricultural greenhouse and laboratory, consisting of four platforms. Finally, we will visit the Maras Salt Mines, which have been exploited as a means of economic exchange and securities since Inca times. It is very interesting to see how the salt is collected from these mines and to learn about the lives of those who work there.

  • Day 5: Machu Picchu tour
  • Early in the morning, our private transportation will meet you at the hotel to take you to Ollantaytambo Train Station from where you will take a spectacular one and a half hour scenic train journey to Aguas Calientes. Upon arrival, we will take a bus up the mountain to Machu Picchu, to start a private, luxury tour. We will travel through history as we are guided around the most spectacular Incan constructions in Peru. We will then have a delicious lunch in Tinkuy by Sanctuary Lodge; an exclusive and cozy restaurant close to the citadel. Finally, we will take a bus back to Aguas Calientes where we will spend the night.

  • Day 6: Machu Picchu free day and train back to Cusco
  • Today, you will return to visit and explore Machu Picchu again on your own. You will be able to take one of the site’s many short trekking options, such as the Sun Gate Hike, to get an impressive view of the Machu Picchu Citadel. Alternatively, you can visit the Inca Bridge, once used as a secret entrance to the city by the Inca Army. There is also an option that allows you to climb to the summit of Huayna Picchu Mountain at either 07:00hrs or 10:00hrs. Finally, there are also trekking options around the town of Aguas Calientes. These include the easy walk to the Mandor Waterfalls or the more challenging Putucusi Mountain which will afford you with an impressive view of Machu Picchu. In the afternoon, we will have lunch in a pleasant restaurant near the train station before taking the train back to Ollantaytambo where our staff will be waiting to escort you to your hotel in the city of Cusco.

  • Day 7: Cusco tour
  • The day will begin with a private city tour that includes a visit to the Qorikancha Temple and the Santo Domingo Convent. This is a religious center known as 'The Temple of the Sun'; it was the most important Temple in the city during Inca times. The characteristics that stand out here are the impressive engineering techniques that were utilized during its construction and the paintings from the Cusquenian School that are housed inside. Onwards, the tour will continue to the Cathedral of Cusco; this is a colonial and religious monument of extraordinary artistic value, where a wide variety of artistic works can be found inside. We will then explore the nearby Incan archaeological sites of Sacsaywaman, Qenqo and Tambomachay, famous for their constructions, which were based on rocks. Some of these rocks are about 9 metres (30 ft.) high and weigh more than 350 tons. Finally, you will have the afternoon to relax and enjoy at your leisure.

  • Day 8: Flight to Tambopata Jungle
  • After breakfast in your hotel, our staff will pick you up and escort you to Cusco International Airport where you will take a forty-five minute flight to Puerto Maldonado. Upon arrival, the lodge manager will welcome you and brief you with important navigation and security tips. The two and a half hour boat ride from the Tambopata Port to Refugio Amazonas will take us past the Community of Infierno and the Tambopata National Reserve's checkpoint and into the buffer zone of this 1.3 million hectare conservation unit. Box lunch will be provided on your way to the lodge. if we are lucky, we will see caimans, turtles, herons, cormorants and other animal species in their natural environment.

  • Day 9: Tambopata Jungle / Oxbow Lake visit
  • After a delicious breakfast, we will begin our fantastic adventure through the Virgin Forest, accompanied by our local guide. We will explore the majestic Lake Apu Victor and its clear waters, surrounded by marshes and giant trees. Afterwards, we will go up to an observation deck from which we will enjoy a panoramic view of the lake. From this point, we will observe parrots, macaws, toucans, camungos, shanshos, herons and other animals.
  • At the beginning of the day, you will enjoy a hearty breakfast at the lodge. Then we will paddle around the lake in a canoe or a catamaran, looking for lakeside wildlife such as hoatzin, caiman and horned screamers. Afterwards, you will get to before stopping to enjoy a delicious lunch.
  • Five minutes downriver from the lodge lays a farm owned and managed by the charismatic Don Manuel from the neighboring community of Condenado, he grows a variety of popular and unknown Amazon crops. Next, you will have an Ethnobotanical tour where we will find a variety of plants and trees that are used by the local population for a suite of medicinal and non-medicinal purposes. We will learn about the medicinal (and other) uses of Ajo-Sacha, Yuca de Venado, Uña de Gato, Charcot-Sacha, Para-Para, among several others. At your returning to the lodge, you will have the chance to have dinner and nightly lectures will be prepared by the staff of Refugio Amazonas to cover conservation threats, opportunities and projects in the Tambopata National Reserve.

  • Day 10: Tambopata Jungle / Chuncho clay lick
  • Two hours from Refugio Amazonas, deep in the Tambopata National Reserve we will stop at the Chuncho clay lick. After a brief walk, we will have the chance to see dozens of large macaws feeding on the special sodium rich clays of the riverbank. The Chuncho clay lick probably attracts more large macaws than any other clay lick in the world and the sight of dozens of macaws taking flight is truly unforgettable.
  • Our stopover will depend on the weather and the amount of macaw activity, as the birds do not visit the clay lick when it is raining. After lunch, we will walk a few minutes down to a beautiful old growth patch of Brazil Nut forest that has been harvested for decades if not centuries, where the precarious remains of a camp used two months a year by Brazil Nut gatherers can still be seen.
  • We will be demonstrating the whole process of the rain forest's only sustainably harvested product from collection, transportation to drying. Twenty minutes walk from Refugio Amazonas is a peccary clay lick; these wild rain forest pigs show up in herds of five to twenty individuals to eat clay in the late morning. The chances of spotting them are around 15%, but are well worth the short hike. Other wildlife also includes deer, guan and parakeets. After dinner, you will have the option of hiking for a better chance at spotting some more species of animal as this is the time when most of the mammals are active.

  • Day 11: Tambopata Jungle farewell
  • Depending on the time that your flight departs Puerto Maldonado; our staff will pick you up and escort you to the airport by private transportation. Once you arrive at the airport, our program will conclude.

Overview

This Luxury program will allow you to experience the magic of both Machu Picchu and the Amazon districts by taking you through to the heart of the Inca Empire and the Amazon Jungle. Our excursion will start in the beautiful and cosmopolitan city of Lima. Our trip will continue with a private tour through the Sacred Valley of the Incas where we will explore the mystical Inca complex of Machu Picchu. Then, we will continue our journey to Urubamba where we will have a delicious lunch, while surrounded by stunning views of the mountains and glaciers. Afterwards, we will visit Maras and Moray where we will enjoy amazing views and enigmatic stories about the salt mines and the unique terraces. You will then discover the beauty of Cusco City, the capital of the Incan Empire. From the Andes, we will travel into the Amazon Jungle to explore its great rivers and lakes in the company of a range of wildlife including birds, macaws, otters, monkeys, butterflies and many other types of exotic species.

We will take you on a dazzling city tour of Lima.

  • Day 3: flight to Cusco / Sacred Valley tour

Our staff will meet you at Cusco International Airport and from here, we are heading to the Sacred Valley, the Awanakancha Textile Museum for a mixture of culture and art, the stunning mountain ruins of Pisaq and the colorful, traditional market where we will mingle with local people. Later, you will be able to enjoy an exquisite lunch in the midst of truly amazing scenery.

  • Day 4: Ollantaytambo / Maras / Moray tour

We will visit the ancient Inca town of Ollantaytambo. Later, we will enjoy a fantastic BBQ lunch in the Niños del Arco Iris social project. We will then visit the mind bending Maras Salt Mines and Moray’s spectacular circular terraces.

  • Day 5: Machu Picchu tour

On day 5, we will reach the summit of your adventure; Machu Picchu, an official UNESCO World Heritage Site once known as the ‘Lost City of the Incas’.

  • Day 6: Machu Picchu free day and train back to Cusco

On day 6, you will have a free day to relax or explore the surrounding areas. Later, we will enjoy an exquisite lunch in the main square before returning by train back to Ollantaytambo and then onto Cusco by private transportation.

We will tour around the historic city of Cusco and have a leisurly afternoon to explore the city.

  • Day 8: Flight to Tambopata jungle

Welcome to the jungle! We will venture across Puerto Maldonado to the river port and enjoy a half-day tour of Tambopata.
